Band Consulting

Does This Sound Like You?

Your band has been working hard for 2 or more years, your music is great, but you feel like it’s a struggle to pull people through the door to shows, or get attention from the industry?

You have a single, EP or album release coming up and aren’t sure where to start with the planning, let alone the marketing?

You know you should be posting on social media more often but you find it a chore?

✔ You are starting to feel like you aren’t enjoying music as much as you used to and are contemplating packing it all in and getting a ‘normal’ job instead?

Yes? RAD, you’re in the right place!

Being a musician means you’re an entrepreneur.  You are your own talent, booking agent, accountant, social media manager, PR firm, life coach and more!

We both know how much work goes into releasing music, whether it be an album, EP or stand-alone single. Tens or even hundreds of hours can go into writing, rehearsing and recording your music. Not to mention organising artwork, studio time, getting it digitally distributed and much more.

So imagine after all that, you release your music, post the link on Facebook and only a handful of people like the post. It can seem like a bit of a waste, right?

Sometimes as musicians we can feel like we’re hitting our heads against a glass ceiling when it comes to getting more exposure. Meanwhile, other bands who have been in the game for way less time are getting bigger opportunities like support slots, radio play, press and more. It can feel a bit unfair.

I know what it’s like to feel like your band is invisible. To work so fucking hard and invest so much time, energy and money into a project that isn’t getting the traction you want it to.

So many bands out there are slogging it out on local stages over and over to an audience that appears to never grow. It can be a struggle to get more than just friends and family through the door, let along real fans who actually love our music and want to buy our merch. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

“I’ve worked with Monica on a number of projects for years. I’ve found her to be one of the rare ones, that’s ethical, punctual and actual gives a damn about her job.  Monica fucking rocks!”
CARL NEUMANN, OWNER – HEAVY MAGAZINE

My journey as a musician has been a long one. I’ve played in several bands, attended music college, partied until sunrise and made many bad decisions along the way (I’m sure many of you have also driven to other states in the middle of the night to play one show to ten people and then back again, amiright!?). My band and I thought the only way to get exposure was to play as much as possible.

But we were so wrong.

The difference between my band at the time and the other bands getting bigger opportunities was not the number of gigs we were playing. In fact, the complete opposite. It wasn’t the quality of music or performance either.

It was strategy & social media.

These bands had planned their releases and promoted their shows in such a way that people were actually going to listen to their music and attend their gigs. They had also realised that whilst playing live is important, social media can reach more people (globally, might I add) than playing live at this stage in their career ever could. And this was the difference.

They say it’s a long way to the top if you want to rock n’ roll. But there’s no reason bands need to spend years on the bottom rungs of the musical ladder circling around and around within the local scene.

I started developing my coaching services as I had seen far too many of my peers give up on their musical dreams too early due to lack of knowledge or motivation; especially when it came to business skills such as marketing.

If a band plays in a venue and no one is around to hear them, do they make a sound?
